ESS Strategy Consultation - Information Session (In person) | Thistle House - Environmental Standards Scotland

Jun 25, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
Conferences
What is the session about? Environmental Standards Scotland (ESS) has launched a consultation on our draft Strategy 2026-2031 . The consultation will give organisations and members of the public with an interest in ESS’ role, the opportunity to provide their views and help shape the development of the final Strategy that will be presented to the Scottish Parliament for approval later this year. Join us at this in person session to meet ESS, find out more about our draft Strategy consultation and network with other stakeholders. The session will be hosted in our office in Edinburgh at Thistle House. We hope to welcome guests from 12pm with an aim to begin from 12:30pm. Lunch will also be made available after the session from 1:30pm. An option to dial into the session online will be made available closer to the date if you are unable to attend in person. For any queries regarding the event or registration, please email enquiries@environmentalstandards.scot . Background Environmental Standards Scotland (ESS) was established in October 2021 as an independent non-Ministerial office: to monitor, investigate and secure public authorities’ compliance with environmental law to scrutinise the effectiveness of environmental law in Scotland and how it is implemented Our first Strategic Plan was approved by the Scottish Parliament in autumn 2022 and covers the period to the end of 2025. The UK Withdrawal from the European Union (Continuity) (Scotland) Act 2021 (‘the Continuity Act’) that established ESS requires us to review our Strategy. If we make revisions to the Strategy, we must submit the revised Strategy to the Parliament for approval. Our draft Strategy 2026-2031 sets out our proposed approach to delivering our statutory functions over the next five years. It describes the context for our work and sets out how we propose to carry out our role in a way that delivers improved outcomes for the environment and human health. The draft Strategy also includes a number of links to ESS policies and operational guidance where further details about our approach is set out. World War II Cookery Class | Edinburgh New Town Cookery School Ltd

Jun 26, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Edinburgh
Cultural Experiences
Join the International Ghost Society for a one-off historical cookery class, during which you'll learn about food during the Second World War, and get to try your hand at making some classic WWII dishes. While many people associate the years of the Second World War with rationing, it was also a time of great ingenuity in cooking. Hundreds of new recipes were invented, making use of what was available, and responding to shortages, the national mood, and changing trends. Many of these recipes have since been lost to history ... but this event offers you a chance to taste some of the forgotten foods of this pivotal era in the history of the world. Our venue is the ENTCS in Edinburgh : a beautiful Georgian building that is now home to a fully-equipped cookery school. All the implements, equipment and ingredients you'll need are provided, and there'll be help on hand throughout. Mix and enjoy a classic WWII-era cocktail while we learn about rationing, food on the different fronts of the war, communal kitchens, military rations, shortages, exotic foods during the war, and more. Then put on an apron, pick a recipe, and put together a classic World War Two dish. Recipes include vinegar cake , Lord Woolton pie , and a mock banana sandwich . While we'll focus mainly on the British home front during this event, we'll have the option to make a few recipes from the trenches and from other nations. At the end of the evening, we'll present and sample our creations... and you'll have the option to take what you've cooked home with you. In its most simple terms, we turn surplus food into nourishing meals for people that need them, free of charge and without judgement. By making our service available to all, without the need to prove need, we reach some of the most marginalised people across Edinburgh. Family Constellations Day Event Edinburgh | Santosa Café + Wellness Centre

Edinburgh
Family Events
Whilst there is still an idea of a perpetrator and a victim, we remain trapped. If you are ready for a new story, one where you stand in your own place, full of power and life force, receiving the gifts of your ancestors and leaving their pain with them, come and join us for a beautiful day of Family Constellations. Free yourself from unhealthy family dynamics. Parenting your parent, not belonging, people pleasing, scared of love, sexual abuse, rejection, abandonment, blame, unworthiness, anger, shame, narcissism... the list goes on. Health issues, relationship issues and financial issues also come as a result of unresolved family stories. It is often the most obvious relationships that have the biggest impact on us, especially when unseen dynamics are at play. This event helps you to see these patterns and entanglements, so they no longer impact the family system. The Mother/Father wound must be healed if we are to thrive in our lives. Even if we love our parents, it doesn't mean we are free from their burdens. Are you ready to let go? For eight years I have watched not only my life and family system changing in ways I couldn't have imagined, but the same for my clients and students. Unbelievable shifts and changes happen so rapidly. I haven't encountered an issue that doesn't link back to the family system. Be it business, health, love etc Clients report magical outcomes and it all comes from understanding the hidden links within the family system, and releasing them. It's really simple and I'm desperate to share it with everyone I meet, because it changes lives! This event gives you the option to attend as a "Subject" this means the whole group will work on your family issue, or a "Representative" where you will represent the family members of the "Subject" and work on their issue (which often mirrors your own system and brings a big healing movement for you) We will also be in small groups so everyone will work briefly on their own issues too "Subject" tickets cost £180 (usually £240) and the topic can be anything at all you wish to clear in your life. These are limited to 3 people "Representative" tickets cost £40 (£30 for anyone who has worked with me before) If you are experiencing financial issues and would like to attend, please contact me to chat The event runs 10am - 6pm and includes a 1 hour lunch break (there is an excellent cafe on the premises) Payments can be made directly to avoid website fees (please whatsapp me on 07857089921) PARKING IS DIFFICULT SO PLEASE ALLOW TIME TO FIND A SPACE With love and gratitude, Vida x TICKETS: https://www.vidab-familyconstellations.com/event-info/family-constellations-day-event-edinburgh Information Source: Vida Healing | eventbrite

We are delighted to invite you to theopening reception of our brand-new exhibition Wael Shawky. This event is part of our 50th anniversary celebrations, marking five decades of exhibitions at Talbot Rice Gallery, open to everyone and always free. Wael Shawky’s penetrating film installations explore histories that have shaped our world. Intricately created sets and painted environments become host to exquisitely crafted and costumed characters, who perform versions of history connected to conflicts that continue to rage around us. Across Shawky’s Cabaret Crusades series and the recent Drama 1882 (created for the Egyptian Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024), Shawky reopens the narrative of the series of religious wars known as the Crusades, from an Arab perspective. He also highlights the events leading up to the British occupation of Egypt in 1882, destabilising any singular authority by embracing the irregular, subjective and contradictory accounts that more authentically represent the formation of history. Exhibition preview and reception schedule 2pm – Exhibition preview begins in Talbot Rice Gallery 2:30pm – Reception begins in Playfair Library (access through Talbot Rice Gallery) 3:00pm – Speeches in Playfair Library 4:30pm – Exhibition preview and reception ends Please enter through Talbot Rice Gallery via the West College Street entrance or the South Bridge entrance across the Old College Quad. To ensure artwork safety, we ask that you do not bring any large bags or items with you. There will be a coat check at the downstairs entrance of the gallery for bags, coats and other large items if necessary. Thank you for your understanding.
