Singapore
Cultural Experiences
Wouldn’t you love to experience more bliss in your life, to move your body and fill up with the essence of who you are? We will create a safe and nourishing space for you to connect with yourself, the cacao spirit and others deeply. Where you can open your heart and be present, as we share cacao together, and experience collectively a boost in mood, vitality, intuition and empathy. Cacao improves our mood, brain health and immune system, regulates the nervous system and blood pressure. It is a natural remedy for anxiety, and it makes us feel relaxed and happy at the same time, as serotonin is released when we take cacao. Being rich in antioxidants, cacao helps fight free radicals and slows down ageing. Cacao also helps us to do deep inner work and processing. We will begin with intention setting, and then drink the cacao together as a group. When we all drink cacao together, we are shifting our energy into the same energetic frequency. This is a healing experience for our body, mind and spirit, as it often results in a more intimate connection with ourselves and one another. Being in a sacred space, it opens our heart and mind, inspiring us and creating new ideas. After which, we will move our body to music to feel and express ourselves, connecting with our heart and soul. This is followed by a sound journey, and then we will close the ceremony with gratitude. *You may wish to bring a notebook and pen to jot down notes. Also, feel free to bring your crystals, etc. to charge on the altar. Information Source: SPACE2B | eventbrite

The event will be held at Club@52 at The Seacare Hotel , a cozy and welcoming venue perfect for networking and learning. Whether you're a seasoned professional in the industry or just curious about the latest developments in fuel technology, this event is perfect for you. Join us for engaging conversations, informative presentations, and of course, delicious food! There will be two talks during the evening exploring alternative fuels use in maritime with knowledge sharing from the manufacturer and from Classification Society. "The Role of Innospec Additives in Supporting Decarbonization in the Marine Sector" by Max Fok , Innospec Ltd "Marine Biofuels - Regulatory Perspective", by Ashish Anilan, Assistant Director, Future Shipping Team, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore Don't miss out on this opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and expand your knowledge on a sustainable engines and fuels. See you there! Talk No:1 . "The Role of Innospec Additives in Supporting Decarbonization in the Marine Sector" by Max Fok , Innospec Ltd Abstract As the shipping industry faces increasing regulatory pressure and rapidly evolving fuel standards — transitioning from high-sulfur fuel oil (HSFO) to low-sulfur fuel oil (LSFO), Biofuels, and other alternative fuels — maintaining performance, compliance, and sustainability has become more complex. This presentation will explore how Innospec’s advanced fuel additive technologies play a critical role in enabling this transition. By enhancing fuel stability, improving combustion efficiency, and reducing emissions, Innospec additives offer proven solutions that support the decarbonization goals of the maritime sector while ensuring operational reliability across a wide range of fuel types. About the Speaker Max Fok is the Area Sales Manager and Market Specialist at Innospec Limited, supporting marine customers across the Asia Pacific region with advanced fuel treatment technologies designed to improve performance, reduce emissions, and support sustainability objectives. Based in Singapore, Max joined Innospec in 2022 and brings nearly a decade of experience across shipboard engineering and marine service support. Talk No:2. "Marine Biofuels - Regulatory Perspective", by Ashish Anilan , Assistant Director, Bureau Veritas Abstract Since the last MEPC80, the IMO’s GHG strategy has undergone a dramatic shift toward ambitious goals, bringing the international shipping decarbonization trajectory closer to the objectives of the Paris Agreement. Besides intermediate milestones that will be instrumental in meeting the GHG budget, the aim of reaching net-zero GHG emissions by around 2050 sets the course for the decades to come. Although clear and aspirational objectives are now adopted, the route toward net zero remains very challenging, and the whole range of solutions available to decarbonise the shipping industry will have to face significant uptake and a continuous growth rate until 2050. However, practical steps exist and surely play an instrumental role in speeding up the adoption and robustness of solutions. Among the readily accessible solutions, many industry stakeholders vote for the broader adoption of biofuels. Biofuels offer numerous advantages, provided that challenges such as sustainability, performance, GHG emissions savings, and traceability can be overcome. The purpose of this presentation is to provide an understanding of current requirements and the state of play surrounding biofuel for use in maritime transportation. About the Speaker Ashish brings over 15 years of experience in developing technology-driven marine projects across Southeast Asia and the Pacific. Currently, as Assistant Director and Sustainability Leader at Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, he spearheads strategic initiatives for the region's sustainability and energy transition for maritime and adjoining sectors. Ashish leads projects and partnerships through BV's Future Shipping Team (FST) initiative. He is a passionate and results-oriented leader, combining his expertise in business development, technical leadership, and project management. Ashish actively represents the organization in various trade associations and industry coalitions. He is also convening the Work Group developing Singapore's National Standard for LNG bunkering, a testament to his commitment to shaping a sustainable maritime industry. Jurong Island to Selat Sembilan: Tracing Community Histories w Dr Hadi Osni | My Community's Office

Jul 25, 2025 (UTC+8)
Singapore
Cultural Experiences
What To Expect This talk shares insights from ‘From Jurong Island to Selat Sembilan,’ a research project and exhibition that focuses on the quieter, often-overlooked group of islands that once existed in Singapore’s southwestern waters. Known collectively as Selat Sembilan, this group—including Pulau Seraya, Pulau Ayer Chawan, Pulau Merlimau, Pulau Samulun and others—was gradually joined and transformed into Jurong Island, now a restricted industrial zone. Drawing from fieldwork supported by the National Heritage Board’s Heritage Research Grant, Dr Hadi Osni reflects on the process of reconstructing island life through oral history interviews, archival images, and GIS mapping. The seminar explores five themes: the naming and mapping of the islands, recollections of daily life on Samulun, Merlimau, and Seraya, stories of growing up, and the timeline of infrastructural and social change. It also explores memory-based methods, such as mental mapping, while highlighting how place names, ecological memory, and kinship networks provide alternative ways of remembering landscapes that are no longer physically accessible. About the Speaker Dr. Hadi Osni is a curator at the Malay Heritage Centre under Singapore’s National Heritage Board. He holds a PhD in Architecture from the National University of Singapore, where his doctoral research focused on how Baweanese communal spaces in Singapore were remembered and reconstructed through oral history and mapping. His research interests include mosque architecture in Southeast Asia, heritage and community, and the histories of everyday life in Singapore’s built environment. Hadi is a Co-Investigator of the NHB-funded project “Socio-Cultural Heritage of Jurong Island and Former Offshore Islands” (2023–2025). As part of this project, he led oral history interviews, archival research, and GIS mapping to document the experiences of former island residents who relocated following land reclamation and industrial redevelopment. The project culminated in the exhibition “From Jurong Island to Selat Sembilan” at the NUS Museum, which presents stories of kampung life, inter-island connections, and changes to the landscape over time. The views expressed here are solely those of the author in his private capacity and do not in any way represent the views of the National Heritage Board and/or any government agencies. How often do these questions surface in your sponsorship strategy meetings? Why are we really investing in sponsorship? Do we have a unified view of everything in our portfolio? In the words of Prof Yacob Ibrahim, a Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kolam Ayer ward in Jalan Besar GRC: “The history of Kallang River is the history of Singapore. It is an important story to be told”. The name Kilang, Kelang or Kallang was a reference to the Orang Laut tribe known as Orang Beduanda Kalang, who settled in Kallang and Singapore Rivers and made kajangs (boat roof) and sails. Kallang refers to the roller skid for launching boats in Malay. There were about 500 Orang Biduanda Kallang when Raffles first landed in Singapore. The Kallang River, which is the longest river in Singapore, flows from Lower and Upper Pierce Reservoir to the basin near Nicoll Highway. My Boon Keng Heritage Tour covers the section of the river near its intersection with Whampoa River where early immigrants lived, worked, played and prayed at Kampong Kuchai, Kampong Hock Soon and Kampong Koo Chye. Artist Talk, Jason Ting: Breathing Room | INSTINC Space

Jul 26, 2025 (UTC+8)
Singapore
Arts
Fine Art
Venue: INSTINC Space, 39 Keppel Rd, #03-10 Tanjong Pagar Distripark, Singapore 089065 Opening Reception: 23 July 2025 (Wed.) 5:30PM–8:30PM Exhibition Duration : 24 to 27 July 2025 (Wed-Fri, 1PM-7PM. Sat - Sun, 1PM-6PM) BREATHING ROOM is a multimedia installation that invites viewers to take refuge from the deluge of noise and distractions of contemporary life. In a culture where the experience of viewership is marked by mind-numbing consumption and overwhelm due to our 24/7 news cycle and the ubiquity of screens competing for our attention, BREATHING ROOM offers a rare pause.  Through gentle shifts in light and color and ambient sounds composed by Los Angeles-based producer Teebs, BREATHING ROOM creates a meditative enclosure much like a cove: it shelters viewers from the elements while providing the quiet necessary to behold one’s inner life and the outside world more clearly. This sanctuary of stillness, breath, and reflection is not for viewers to zone out, but to reconnect with themselves so that they can re-engage the world with greater care.  Each artwork transitions through a series of visuals designed to cultivate attentiveness and wonder. Dream Totem animates light and color at the rhythm of slow breathing. When the EEG headband is worn, real-time brain wave data produces the visuals, creating a dynamic biofeedback experience. Lumina acts as a “digital fireplace” where viewers can gather around a light source that prompts introspection and connection. Finally, a series of screen-based animations, including Rise and Aura Flow, draw upon movements and forms found in the natural world. Repurposing technologies typically used for advertising and entertainment, such as LED lights and TV screens, BREATHING ROOM halts the dopamine rush of constant media input, allowing viewers to focus instead on evolving forms and colors and to simply soak in the light washing over them. In this state of active presence, viewers may experience the capaciousness and clarity that arises from even brief moments of quiet, prompting reflection on what it means to truly see. About Artist Jason Ting (b. 1986, Johor Bahru, Malaysia) is a new media artist based in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. He uses creative coding tools to create abstract animated visuals that explore the interaction of form, color, and motion. A graduate of UC San Diego’s Interdisciplinary Computing and the Arts program, his work is inspired by forces found in nature, geometric patterns, and light. About INSTINC Space Founded in 2004 by artist Yeo Shih Yun, INSTINC is a leading artist-run institution based in Singapore. Ravana, a brilliant scholar, veena maestro, devoted worshipper, and powerful ruler, stands at the twilight of his life, reflecting on key moments that shaped his destiny. He recalls performing sacrificial rites that ironically aided Rama's victory, crafting a veena from his own body to win Lord Shiva’s favor, falling in love with Mandodari, and finally achieving his long-desired confrontation with Rama, sparked by his sister Shurpanaka’s humiliation. Even his abduction of Sita, done with symbolic restraint, resurfaces in his memory. Haunted by the conflicting voices of his ten heads—some urging surrender, others calling for battle or chastising his actions—Ravana silences them all to heed the voice that truly matters. As he embraces his fate, he steps forward not toward defeat, but toward his own form of victory— Jaya . Information Source: Samhita Dance Festival | eventbrite
