Join artist Dan Drage as he revisits his installations, Gathering Surface, one year on. Dan will consider the collaborative roles played by time and soil in these works, and ask what this might teach us about being human in nature (which is to say, in the world). At the end of his art-practice-based PhD collaborating between the Institute for Theology, Imagination and the Arts (ITIA) at University of St Andrews and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design (DJCAD) at University of Dundee, Dan offers reflections on these works as central to his research into immanent and transcendent realities. Free with Garden admission - pre-booking strongly recommended. This event will take place in the Boiler House, followed by the opportunity to visit the installation in the Garden. What happens at Improv? The primary objective is to have fun. We start with simple warm-up games to get to know each other, and then some exercises to help us create short stories and sketches. If you want to just stand back at any time that’s ok, but most people want to join in and enjoy the unexpected scenarios that unfold Why come to Improv? Improv helps us to ‘be in the moment’ and free our minds, it helps us to reconnect with the imagination we had as a child, and with our imagination we connect with our creative self. Improv helps us to build self-confidence, develop communication skills, work as a team, think outside the box … and yes, you get all that while having a good time …! Who is Improv for? Improv is for anyone who wants to ‘give it a go’. You don’t need any drama, acting or improv experience. Whatever you do, you are making it up, and you can’t get anything wrong. You can create anything you want, and be whoever you want – that’s the fun of it. Wheelchair access available – please get in touch Information Source: The Frome Society | eventbrite

We've had poets from ages 8 - 80 join us to share their poetry, and we welcome all styles of poetry (even if it's not very loud!). With a different feature performer every time, this event offers a welcoming and supportive environment for all. Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:00 start. The event has a roughly 15 minute interval about one hour in. It wraps up around 9.30pm. Please note that this event is free and unticketed (you don't need to book through Eventbrite to attend). Seating is first come, first served. As this event tends to fill up quickly, we recommend that you arrive early (doors 6.30pm) to ensure a seat. To sign up to perform, please fill in the form at https://forms.gle/4L5piaPc6CBCvqfa6 We will email you one week prior to the event to let you know whether you have a guaranteed performance spot. We always leave two spots open, and these spots will be filled by random draw from poets who sign up on the door. Performance slots are five minutes. Poets are welcome to perform as many or few poems as you would like within that time. You are welcome to go under the five minutes, but please do not go over, out of respect to your fellow performers. At our open mic and all of our events, we endeavour to create a safe, welcoming space for all to attend and share their work. We ask performers to be respectful of the diversity of our experiences. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, transphobia, xenophobia, ableism, and other forms of discrimination and harassment. Don't punch down. Performers and attendees who violate this policy will be asked to leave. Access information: The event takes place in the downstairs room of the Canons' Gait, so unfortunately it is not wheelchair accessible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. There is a single step up to the stage. There is a microphone on stage and we require performers to use it. If you have any questions about accessibility, please contact mark@iamloud.co and we will do our best to accomodate you. The Loud Poets Open Mic is organised by I Am Loud CIC. Marcus is an experienced storyteller, who has created a number of well received storytelling shows and can regularly be found on the line-up of festivals such as Buddhafield and the Oxford Storytelling Festival. He is a graduate of the School of Storytelling at Emerson College, founder of the Grey Wolf Story Cafe in Hay-on-Wye, host of the magical Bardic Caravan, and runs storytelling workshops, retreats and shows in the beautiful green hills of Herefordshire. Information Source: Casa Ghislanzoni | eventbrite
