LEONARD <ERNSTEIN CANDIDE> | Sydney Opera House
Feb 12–Mar 14, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Sydney
Come on a wild and witty journey through the best of all possible worlds.Life is happiness, indeed. Or so believes Candide at the start of his great adventure through a world gone mad. By the end? Just wait and see.
Candideis a brilliant satire about humankind’s capacity for mindless optimism, set to a remarkable score by famedWest Side Storycomposer Leonard Bernstein.
Bernstein’s genius is on full display: from the exuberant overture (a favourite of concert orchestras around the world), to the soprano showpiece ‘Glitter and Be Gay’ and the touching choral finale ‘Make Our Garden Grow’.
This new staging by award-winning director Dean Bryant was a smash hit upon its Victorian Opera premiere in 2024, with critics declaring it “the best of all possible productions” (Australian Book Review).
Musical theatre renaissance man Eddie Perfect and the star ofHamiltonLyndon Watts reprise their roles in a production that delivers both first-rate comedy and the symphonic magic of Bernstein’s score.
Since its premiere,Candidehas defied classification — it’s played seasons on Broadway but has been embraced by many of the world’s great opera houses as part of the canon. Is it operetta or musical theatre? Whatever the case, it has some of the best music and most rollicking adventures you’ll see in any theatre.

The Art of Longevity Workshop: URBNSURF, Sydney | URBNSURF Sydney
Feb 23, 2025 (UTC+10)ENDED
Sydney Olympic Park
In the epic setting of URBNSURF, Sydney, this workshop will give you the opportunity to experience and engage with Surfing legend and 2x World Surfing Champion, Thomas Carroll. As well as the Holistic Coach Rodrigo Perez founder of the Surf Movement method and Holistic Pro Health. The full day workshop has been designed for both surfers and non surfers and includes your wave pool session in the afternoon, between both workshops. Tom is a former professional surfer and has practiced daily meditation for over a decade. During the workshop he will be teaching you the Vedic traditions as well as simple fundamentals which can be implemented into your daily practice. “Meditation synchronises us with nature and with our innate intelligence. It guides us and helps us show up and enjoy life in a much greater way. I am stoked to be able to share this with you” “I think connecting with the breath is probably the biggest thing for me. Being aware of my breath and doing a number of breaths very, very consciously brings me further into my body, and that’s where I need to be.” The daily practice of meditation helps anyone be present in what they’re doing, it’s where our body, mind and attention is really placed upon the most important thing – the “right now. Rod has helped and trained many surfers from pro tour athletes and groms through to the everyday athlete as well as non surfers. His Holistica movement method and surf movement has helped many of his athletes improve the way they move, become aware of their body, improve nutrition, their training and ultimately become more durable and achieve optimal longevity. “Optimal longevity is what we are looking for these days. Be smart with what we are doing to keep doing what we love.” Over the last 2 decades, I realised that an increasing number of people from all ages and backgrounds abandon an active life due to injuries, stressful lifestyle, poor diets, or even because they reached a plateau in their sports career. I see these people falling into two kinds of categories: the professional athletes, who compete and make a living from their sport, and those who I call ‘life athletes’. The ‘life athletes’ are those who, despite not making a living from their sport, need to balance their workload with family time, their social lives and the activities they love. Whether you are a ‘life athlete’, a professional one or a coach, the reality is that we all need to look after our bodies and minds so that we can live optimum, pain-free, productive, and playful lives. LETS BE ATHLETES FOR LIFE! - WE HOPE YOU WILL JOIN US. Rod will teach you the best way to move, looking for the right movements and flow a sequence together with a breath work. Plus he will share tips on what we should be looking for, from the optimal longevity way. We are talking about training, nutrition, rest, water, breath and love. To master our bodies and move with precision and flow. Rod teaches and practices complex movements and concepts in the simplest possible way to incorporate them into our lives.Rod works with multiple modalities to achieve better breathing and mind focusing techniques, as well as better mobility and precision of moment for his amateur and professional clients. His classes, programs, seminars and consultations are professional, challenging, and yet playful, to prepare his clients to be the protagonists of their own wellbeing and achievements. Rod travels many countries in order to teach amateurs sports children and adults and elite surfing champions from Australia, Brazil, Chile, USA, Europe, South Africa and Japan. What to bring Please bring a bottle of water, towel and comfortable clothes to move, breath and meditate. A nourishing organic vegetarian meal will be provided at the end of the session. “Movement helps us to open the extremity and be more aware. Open the feelings and react well to what we are training for.”
