Over 70 works including prints, artist’s books, sketchbooks and printing plates from across Peter Kingston’s career are on display, in a moving tribute to the late artist. Peter Kingston (1943–2022) lived and worked at the edge of Sydney Harbour. After a childhood spent at Parsley Bay, he settled in Lavender Bay among a community of artists and friends. From there, he observed harbour ferries, Luna Park and the Sydney Opera House in all seasons and weather. These were the subjects of his work, often incorporating his boat, the MV Anytime, and his dogs. Kingston’s output ranged across drawing, printing, painting and filmmaking. A passion for Sydney, for environmental conservation and the preservation of built heritage never left him. Joyful, charming, and with a wry humour, his work celebrates the everyday aspects of our city. Yet there is a bittersweet element to his work. Peter Kingston often talked about ‘time as an artist’, his way of recognising the beauty and value that accumulates with age. His work captures things at risk in a world that is always upgrading, and expresses a nostalgic yearning for those places and characters now lost.

Duo Beija-Flor presents world-folk-inspired classical music with superb playing, varied programs and infecous rhythms (The Whole Note, Toronto). Composed of flautist Marie-Noëlle Choquee and guitarist Charles Hobson, the duo has performed in Canada, the United States, Argentina and Costa Rica. After having self-produced two albums, the duo launched Costas, their third album, in the fall of 2018 with the American label Big Round Records. The duo has also been awarded several awards and grants from organizations including, Canadian and Quebec arts councils, the National arts centre, the Banff centre for the arts, Orford music among others. In 2022 they toured Western Canada under the auspices of Prairie Debut and parcipated in Debut Atlantic’s digital concert series. Forming an incredibly dynamic and creave team (The Flute View, San Francisco) the duo has arranged several works, including Portuguese fados and a unique Roma version of Béla Bartok's Romanian Folk Dances. The duo also went to Buenos Aires to perfect their arrangements and interpretaon of works by Astor Piazzolla. The Duo Beija-Flor has collaborated with various Canadian composers to create new works: Roddy Ellias (Havana Street Parade, 2013), Carmen Braden (Culture of Isolation, aka no rehearsal,2020), Sylvain Picard (Pete Nation, suite rusque riponaise, 2022). The Collection Care branch ensures the rich and extensive collections of the State Library are available to all those who wish to use them, now and in the future. The Collection Care Branch consists of several teams of conservators, registrars, and storage specialists with responsibility for the various aspects of collection care. The collections include many varied formats: books and serials, manuscripts, prints, drawings and paintings, photographs and negatives, architectural plans and maps, objects, film, oral history, and sound recordings. Please note: this tour is only suitable for ages 12 and up, and involves a significant amount of walking. The tour will depart promptly at 2pm and latecomers will not be admitted.
