"I'd call this unbeatable. First off, the front desk service was truly above and beyond my expectations. It was snowing heavily, and the bellhop was still waiting outside for guests to arrive, helping with luggage. The outdoor private onsen in the room was also exceptional; the view and atmosphere were incredible. The breakfast, with its unbeatable ocean view, topped it all off. I had a wonderful day in Hakodate!"

"The hotel has a not to be missed ocean view, but the food variety turns out to be the disappointment. Not so much of choice when comparing it with other ryukan. Another places for your attention is that the toilet and the room has a very strong and unpleasant urine smell. Though I cannot find any uncleaned spots in the toilet, the odor is simply untolerable. The onsen at the balcony has human hair from probably the previous customer and the hotel should do better in cleaning it. Food: 7/10 Service: 8.5/10 Hygiene: 5/10 View: 10/10"

"The location is at the Yunokawa Seaside. The view from the seaside rooms is amazing, and the outdoor hot springs can directly see the sea, which is amazing. However, the room facilities are old and the toilet is not smart. Can you believe that Japanese public toilets are all smart, but the toilet in this hotel is not smart. I went there in winter and it was cold. The experience was terrible. But the price is relatively friendly, so I can only bear it. Next to the hotel is the famous botanical garden, where monkeys take a hot spring bath"

"Facilities: Excellent! My friend enjoyed the public hot spring, and the facilities and views were great. Cleanliness: Good. Both the room and the lobby were clean and bright. Environment: The room view was fantastic! Unbeatable sea view. I'll definitely stay here again next time. Service: The hotel staff were wonderful, very friendly and professional. They helped us with our luggage and even made our beds. Compared to some much more expensive hotels I've stayed at, the service here was even better! I was a bit worried about the service after reading some reviews, but it was absolutely unfounded. My friend and I both regretted not staying an extra night."

From a variety of safe snow activities guided by our G.O®s, to exquisite cuisine and award-winning locally brewed spirits, ClubMed Tomamu Resort Hokkaido is the ultimate winter escape situated in the heart of the island.

"This was my second year visiting, and I was thoroughly satisfied. All three meals were buffet style, and the hotel thoughtfully changed the menu daily, so I never got tired of the food. The kids' ski lessons were also excellent; both children and adults had a great time. This year, we also visited Minamina twice – it has swimming, a wave pool, paddleboarding, and hot springs, making it a perfect way to relax after skiing!"

"Traveling to Japan with my child, our first stop was the Water Chapel, which we'd missed on a previous trip. It's located right within this resort. We took the JR line from New Chitose Airport to Tomamu Station, a small, unmanned station. As soon as you exit, you'll see the hotel's white shuttle bus and welcoming staff. The ride to the hotel takes about ten minutes. The hotel is great, and the resort is nice too. There's even a special shuttle bus to the Water Chapel at night, though it's not a far walk anyway. The room didn't come with bottled water."

"Hoshino Resorts has a great reputation, and the resort itself is indeed massive, but its size shouldn't excuse poor management! We stayed for two nights in a quad room. On the second day, we needed housekeeping. I called the front desk in the morning and even went down to tell them in person. I repeated the request countless times throughout the day in Mandarin, Japanese, and English, and the front desk staff assured me housekeeping would come by 6 PM. However, by 9 PM, after we returned from dinner, our room still hadn't been cleaned. I don't believe this was an accidental oversight! We also pre-booked Japanese breakfast, but when we arrived at the restaurant, they claimed we had no reservation. I clearly watched the front desk staff process our booking on the computer during check-in, so this was incredibly frustrating! For such a high price, and after specifically requesting a high-floor room with a good view when booking through Trip.com, we ended up with a low-floor room with absolutely no view, just trees. It's truly disappointing! The room was also very old with zero soundproofing, and having four people share one bathroom was a very unpleasant experience."

Absolutely beautiful and distinctly Japanese. It's understated yet profound. You can just pull back the curtains and behold the Sea of Okhotsk, watching the drift ice float by as large snowflakes fall. Chatting aimlessly with friends here, I suddenly felt life had gained a richer, more fulfilling meaning. The staff were professional, and they even stored our luggage in advance so we could hike the Five Lakes. This will definitely be my top choice if I ever visit Eastern Hokkaido again!

The room was clean and had a fantastic view, with mountains on one side and the sea on the other! The first floor connects directly to a shopping mall with restaurants, and there's a convenience store and supermarket as well. They even have gashapon machines! It's also a short ten-minute drive to the canal, which is really great.

If you are looking for a truly authentic ryokan experience, Spa Shiosai is an absolute gem. From the moment you arrive, the level of care and attention to detail is world-class. The Highlights Exceptional Dining: Each meal was a work of art, prepared with incredible precision and seasonal flair. I especially appreciated the front desk’s proactive service—they consistently checked in to coordinate my preferred dining times, ensuring every meal was served perfectly fresh. Spacious Public Baths: The onsen facilities are fantastic. The public area is expansive and never felt crowded. Having both a sauna and a serene outdoor bath (rotenburo) made for a deeply relaxing experience. Comfortable Living: Unlike many traditional stays, the room here was very spacious and exceptionally well-heated, which made for a cozy retreat after a day of exploring. The Verdict This isn't just a place to sleep; it’s a place to be looked after. Between the thoughtful staff, the gourmet catering, and the top-tier bath facilities, Spa Shiosai offers the perfect balance of tradition and comfort. Highly recommended!

Facilities: The hotel is quite old, and while the facilities are in good condition, they aren't exactly modern. Surprisingly, there's a vintage audio system that plays music with a great ambiance from a bygone era. The sound quality also has that classic feel, which I loved. It's definitely worth experiencing this unique charm that other hotels don't offer. Service: Standard hotel service, but they upgraded my room without me even asking, which was a nice touch! Transportation: Even though the hotel is on a mountaintop, they offer a shuttle service to the nearest JR station, which is a huge plus. The Otaru Aquarium is just a few steps away, and the dolphin show is fantastic, plus the penguins are adorable. Scenery: This hotel probably boasts the most unique coastal cliff views in Otaru. It's truly postcard-worthy, and the best part is being able to enjoy it while soaking in the hot spring during the day. The scenery is beautiful and enjoyable. At night, however, you can't see anything. Hygiene: Standard hotel cleanliness. Food: I only stayed overnight and didn't try the food.

The hotel is a bit dated, and the room I booked was on the smaller side. My companions booked a triple room, which was much more spacious. I had booked this hotel just for a quick overnight stay while visiting to see the drift ice, not expecting much, but it turned out to be surprisingly good! The breakfast buffet had fresh ingredients, with a decent variety of sashimi – the raw scallops were delicious. And the Hokkaido milk was a definite highlight! Plus, the public bath also had an outdoor pool with a very comfortable water temperature.

For a B&B hotel, there are restrictions on check-in and front desk coffee hours, the hot spring pool is relatively small, dinner and breakfast are Japanese style, the products are relatively ordinary, and the sashimi is not fresh enough. You can pick up at the hotel for ice rafting and five lakes hiking.

The hotel is not in the city center, but it is very easy to get to the hotel by bus. The room is relatively small and the windows and doors cannot be opened. Since it is centrally air-conditioned, the heating is very warm (hot). If you are not used to the heating opening, it will be a bit The baby is hot and toasty, but if you turn off the air conditioner, there will be no air circulation. So after I communicated with the staff, he gave me a fan. The service was very attentive and the price of the hotel was very affordable. I will definitely stay again. The staff’s sincere and thoughtful service is highly recommended!
