"We arrived on Monday the 11th at 3:10 p.m. We went to reception to check in. According to their website, we could access our rooms after 3:00 p.m. After waiting two hours for the keys, according to them because the pillows hadn't arrived... we checked into our room and decided to stay that afternoon by the pool. There were only 30 sun loungers around the pool for more than 60 people, forcing us to lie on the grass. The breakfast buffet was poor... repetitive every day. The Serrano ham was the same one that was left over every day; today it was green (unappetizing). The room was average, the amenities were nonexistent... just a box of tissues and a shower cap... we know there were more because our friend had cotton swabs and shoe polish. Not even a toothbrush. At 5:00 PM, the room still isn't cleaned... we ask for it to be cleaned, and it takes them over an hour to come and clean it. For a fairly average 5-star hotel... I expected more after paying €700 for 5 nights."

"Once called the Alvor Luna Bay when bedrooms seemed larger!!! Renamed and reshaped. Swishly refurbed as new. Now the main problem is the lack of storage in what seem smaller bedrooms despite voluminous balconies. Simply, storage is inadequate for two guests for longer than a week, maximum. Let me describe............ a small [4feet tall?] open metal wardrobe rail with five fixed point clothes hangers. Four or five open shelves beside this rail., one occupied by the rooms safe. In all other respects its fine. The staff good and plentiful and helpful. The location the best in town!"

"I liked it very much and it was surprisingly pleasant. Unfortunately the tennis court was abandoned and the amount of flowers and leaves that accumulate in the pool that has the skimmers without barrier (the door is missing in all). The swimming pool is very pleasant in the fewer days of fluidity and has a beautiful view of the river and Spain."

"Good amenities, excellent location. Air conditioning had some problems, only starting to work well from the second day onwards. Whenever we called reception (before and during our stay) they never answered our cell phone (approximately 15 calls). The hairdryer leaves something to be desired, as does the breakfast, with little variety."

"Another great stay in Sagres. We love this hotel. It is our second stay here and will return. We had an apartment overlooking the pool and ocean. Great for watching the sunset. There was a kitchenette, a living room, balcony, bedroom with 2 twin beds and bathroom. It was perfect for us. Great value for the money."

"I had an amazing stay at Vale d’El Rei Hotel & Villas. The property is absolutely beautiful—nestled in a peaceful and scenic location that feels like a true escape. The gardens are lush and well-maintained, and the overall atmosphere is tranquil and inviting. My room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable, with a lovely view and all the amenities I needed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and attentive, always ready to help with a smile. I also really enjoyed the breakfast—great variety and fresh options each morning. The pool area was a highlight, perfect for relaxing after a day of exploring the Algarve. Whether you're looking for a romantic getaway or a relaxing break, Vale d’El Rei is a fantastic choice."

"Experience started badly at check-in when they refused to add my wife to the booking as Trip.com’s mobile  “deal” was for one guest in room.  Snarky reception person rude and borderline hostile - this was our third stay at this property and as in the past, we felt a subtle bias against us as non-Portuguese.  The Front Desk Manager got involved and he refused to comp. me my wife’s addition to our room and said we had to pay euros 40 for her two day’s breakfasts.  He appeared unkempt with s dirty shirt and was unshaven .  His attitude was aggressive and disrespectful in the extreme.  We asked to be relocated to a higher floor from the 2nd floor and he informed me that there were no sea view rooms on upper floors.  This was patently a lie as the initial receptionist told me that the hotel was not fully booked. While I was in discussions with the front desk receptionist, a hotel guest came up and complained that her room was bery hot.  She was told by the same snarky receptionist that the aircon was off due to a system changeover and she should open her balcony door! When I asked the same question later on to another receptionist, he said that they could give me a fan.  She was and English lady and when a Portuguese guest arrived to check/in, that dame clerk was all over him with handshakes all around.  Other staff around the property didn’t seem overly friendly to guests as well. It is unforgivable for any hotel, let alone a supposed 5 star property, not to have its HVAC system operable and even worse, not to advise guests of the issue. Our room was spacious, if a little warm, but showed the ravages of time with chipped furniture and surfaces.  Also, not too impressed by the powdered coffee presented in the room, or a euros 3 charged for a bucket of ice. I cannot recommend this property for a stay in Portimao and there are a few other more undated hotels nearby."

"Our family room window is much higher than normal level, we can’t see the outside view , when we open the shade, there is a staff walkway just a floor above ours. So we even can’t open the shade to enjoy daylight due to privacy. I believe other rooms won’t have this issue, but still not good for us. ❌ Everyday have different iced welcome drink in reception. ✅ Small pool but not busy, free without booking from 8am-8pm ✅ Our room has mini-kitchen, electronic cooker and hood ✅ Refrigerator is cold enough for really cold drinks.✅ No refill of bottle water and no mini- bar❌ No clean up of cutlery❌ Shower with good temperature range and enough pressure.✅ Just 2 pin sockets, no USB. ❌ Hotel location is PERFECT👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.Plenty of restaurants around. At the middle of famous attractions. 2 Supermarkets and self laundry around. ✅✅✅ Plenty of nice Algarve wall artwork.✅ Nice breakfast buffet ✅"

"Great location. Flat walking area. Close to town centre with plenty of restaurants,shops, cafes and bars. Staff are very helpful and pleasant. Lift, terrace and swimming pool on site. Breakfast is good- buffet style. A large lounge/bar area. Marina and foot ferry to Spain is approx 10-12mins walkaway. I really recommend this hotel and town."

"Apartamento amplio y muy limpio(con falta de mantenimiento, mango de la puerta suelto, columna de la terraza en mal estado y agua en el lavabo no bajaba), ubicación tranquila por la noche, necesario tener coche ya que está a unos 20km de Portimao, parking gratis delante del alojamiento, negativo: piscina del apartamento en muy mal estado completamente descuidado (losetas sueltas, madera suelta, falta de limpieza), lo bueno se puede usar la piscina del hotel (hay que caminar un fisco)."
