"Before coming to Okinawa, my idea of a 'resort hotel' was limited to rooms with sea views and a pool downstairs. It wasn't until I stayed at Ryukyu Onsen Senagajima Hotel that I realized 'hotel hopping' could be a trip in itself. The hotel is located in Itoman City, about a 20-minute drive from Naha Airport, and accessible by limousine bus. After landing in Okinawa, collecting my luggage, and without entering the city or rushing to attractions, I was immediately swept away by the sea breeze – this sense of 'vacation right after getting off the plane' is its most charming aspect. ------ **1. Open the door, and the sea takes center stage** Ryukyu Onsen Senagajima Hotel opened in 2022, so the facilities are very new. What reassured me most was that all guest rooms face west and offer sea views. It's not a 'partial ocean view room,' nor a 'city view where you can see the sea if you turn your head.' Instead, after checking in and opening your balcony door, you're greeted by the mint green waters of Senagajima Beach. The room size is generous for a Japanese hotel, and both double and twin rooms have spacious balconies. In the morning, you can enjoy coffee on the small table, with the sound of waves as white noise. In the evening, there's no need to visit attractions; you can watch the sunset turn the sea golden-red right from your balcony. The trade-off for facing west is missing the sunrise, but the sunset you get in return is well worth it. ------ **2. Six pools, truly enough to keep you entertained all day** The hotel's most remarkable feature is its water facilities: A main pool, lazy river, water slides, children's splash area, indoor heated pool, and an exclusive pool for club lounge guests... Their combined scale is quite impressive among resorts in southern Okinawa. Even I, an adult, couldn't resist: * In the morning, I'd drift idly in the lazy river, feeling like I was being carried by the sea. * In the afternoon, I'd lounge by the pool until my legs were sunburnt. * In the evening, I'd change into my swimsuit again to wade in the private beach. The beach is managed by the hotel, exclusively for guests, offering a strong sense of privacy. While the sand is fine, it's mixed with coral fragments and shell bits, which can be prickly if you go barefoot – I recommend bringing water shoes, and don't try to force those 'influencer barefoot' photos. Families with children will appreciate it even more: the children's pool is shallow, and there's a high density of lifeguards, so parents don't have to be constantly on edge. ------ **3. Breakfast is a 'heavy hitter in Okinawa's buffet scene'** The main restaurant's breakfast buffet boasts an astonishing variety: Japanese, Western, Okinawan local dishes, Chinese appetizers, freshly made omelets, brown sugar desserts, island tofu, sea grapes, prosciutto, smoothies... While the '150 kinds' often mentioned online might be a bit of marketing, it genuinely feels so abundant that choosing becomes difficult. Small reminders: * The regular buffet restaurant can have long queues during peak season, snaking around corners. * If you book a club/executive lounge room type, the separate lounge check-in, exclusive breakfast, afternoon tea, and Happy Hour are much more comfortable. You can even drink champagne in the morning (don't drink too early like I did). * The lounge food might repeat after a few days, so be prepared if you're staying for a long time. ------ **4. Service and novelty are present, but the location is remote** The staff are polite, proactively greet guests, and help with luggage – the Japanese service standard is definitely there. The soundproof windows in the rooms are excellent; even though it's close to the airport, what you mostly hear on the balcony are ocean waves, not airplane roar. The drawbacks are also clear: There's not much commercial activity nearby. Within walking distance, there are basically no convenience stores. If you want a late-night snack, it's either the hotel's mini-mart or a taxi to Itoman/Toyosaki. If you don't rent a car, your itinerary will be tied to 'hotel consumption,' and the dining value for money is just average. So it's best suited for three types of people: 1. Those who want to 'lie flat right after landing' or 'enjoy the sea one last time before heading back' during their first or last night in Okinawa. 2. Families with children whose main goal is water play and not rushing around. 3. Honeymooners/couples who book a lounge room and fully indulge in sunsets, pools, and cocktails. It's not suitable for: People who want to walk around and shop, or visit Kokusai Street/Aquarium/Blue Cave every day. ------ **5. My most memorable moment** One evening, I didn't go to the pool or the restaurant. I just wore a yukata, carried the beach bag provided by the hotel, and sat barefoot at the edge of the private beach. Waves receded one after another, kayaks returned to shore in the distance, and the clouds in the sky faded from orange-red to purple-blue. Suddenly, I felt: Okinawa doesn't necessarily have to be about 'doing a lot.' Sometimes, it's just about having – A sea view from your room, a breeze on your balcony, a pool at the hotel, and a unique sunset every day. ------ **6. Post-stay summary** Ryukyu Onsen Senagajima Hotel isn't Okinawa's most luxurious hotel, but it's likely one of the best for 'hotel hopping value for money': New, all-ocean-view, excellent pools, close to the airport, and family-friendly. The trade-off is its remote location, barren surroundings, and a feeling of being 'trapped' in the resort if you don't rent a car. But if what you're looking for isn't 'checking off Okinawa attractions,' but rather 'giving yourself back to the sea' – It truly qualifies."

"I did enjoy the stay there. It is at the Kokusai dori shopping street with 10 minutes walking distance to the Prefectural Office Subway Station. It’s surrounded by shops and restaurants so very convenient - even a 711 at downstairs and a restaurant at basement. It allows auto check-in and check-out. The single room is a bit small but still cozy. Considering the price I would say it is really good for the value."

"The hotel was clean, modern, and very comfortable. The room was spacious and well-designed, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The location was also convenient, with easy access to the train station and transportation to Narita Airport. Overall, it was a great stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel to others."

"The structure of the hotel is old, but the rooms have been updated and were very comfortable and new. I absolutely loved the retro charm of the place and the common areas such as the atrium pool and inside courtyard area were beautiful spaces. What the marketing doesn’t show is the vast open spaces at this hotel, the stunning landscaped gardens and the art-spaces such as artist in residence and exhibition space. I was blown away by this and enjoy a fantastic painting workshop with the artist who focuses on the local flora and fauna of Okinawa. The best point about this hotel is the staff. They are all incredibly lovely. Lisa and another lady name starting with H on front desk especially were so amazing, very helpful! One night there was an error with our dinner and the chef personally came to apologise. He replaced our meal with a local menu which was incredible and after eating he said the bill was on him as a gesture of apology. I was truly touched by this gesture of kindness. Areas for improvement: the kitchen being closed outside of designated times. If you want food at 10am for example, no chance. Also nowhere to buy drinks near the pool and beach. Food options are not great and the buffet is really mediocre. Also, I would expect their approach to sustainability to be better on an island like this. There is an overuse of plastic, especially single use such as straws and each tiny piece of cake at the buffet being individually wrapped. Really no need for that. I do worry where all this plastic is going. Beach is smaller than it looks. Can’t swim, very shallow full of seaweed and dead coral. Very quiet. Very strict lifeguard: no throwing a ball, no jumping, splashing, laughing it seems. We were using an empty bottle to collect water and build a sandcastle -he removed it. No standing on inflatables. No swimming outside of the fenced off area. From what I’ve seen this is an island-wide thing though, not limited to here. Local area: really not much to see and do outside of the hotel."

"Fantastic hotel! The room was huge and incredibly clean! All the rooms in this hotel are sea-view with very large balconies. The weather during my stay was absolutely perfect, so I spent both days and nights lounging on the sofa on the balcony, enjoying the sea breeze and the ocean view! Personally, I felt this hotel perfectly met my needs! If any of the following points are a big deal for you, then definitely consider them; otherwise, just book it without a second thought: 1. To get to the nearest beach, you have to cross a road yourself, and there are no rentable sun loungers or parasols on the beach. 2. The hotel pool water was a bit cold. 3. The breakfast can't compare to what you'd find in China, though there is one with a nice sea view."

"I really enjoyed my stay at Sansui Hotel in Naha. The hotel offers two swimming pools: one on the second floor and another on the 15th floor, which has a great atmosphere. It also has a sauna and a traditional onsen, with separate sections for men and women. The hotel is conveniently located for getting to and from the airport, and they also offer a free shuttle service. Another great advantage is that Naminoue Beach is only about a 10-minute walk away. One thing to keep in mind is that if you don't rent a car, reaching some of the beautiful beaches in the northern part of Okinawa can be quite difficult by public transport. Overall, I would highly recommend Sansui Hotel if you're looking for a comfortable and relaxing stay with plenty of facilities and amenities."

"This hotel offers top-notch facilities, ambiance, and service. It's nestled in Ginowan, providing a quiet retreat while still being close to the action. There's a mall and convenience stores nearby, and a public beach, perfect for kids and families due to its shallow waters, is just a five-minute walk across the road. A taxi from the airport costs about 130 RMB and takes around 40 minutes, so the journey isn't too tiring. The hotel service is excellent, from the warm welcome upon arrival to being escorted to your room, and the friendly and polite bartending service at the lounge. My only minor complaint is that the lounge breakfast is basically a simplified version of what's offered downstairs, and doesn't really stand out except for being less crowded. They also don't offer an à la carte menu there. I'd recommend having breakfast on the first floor; it's not very busy there either. The hotel also features an infinity pool, a rock bath, and a laundry room. The bathtub in our room was spotless, and we enjoyed a relaxing bath every day during our stay, which was wonderful for unwinding after our travels. The soundproofing at night is also excellent, ensuring a high-quality sleep. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel. It's conveniently located close to Naha and also not far from the airport."

"This hotel is right by the beach, and the setting is absolutely lovely. The staff are incredibly warm and welcoming. The breakfast offers a great variety and tastes delicious. There's a large outdoor pool on the first floor. Plus, there's a bus stop on the ground floor with direct service to the airport, which is super convenient. Highly recommend!"
