W Sydney is a newly established hotel offering a range of excellent amenities. The rooftop outdoor pool is particularly noteworthy, providing guests with an amazing experience. However, the hotel's location between two highways can detract from the overall experience, particularly for those sensitive to noise pollution. The rooms, albeit well-equipped with various amenities, are on the smaller side, which can make them feel cramped and limit mobility within the space. Additionally, the control of lighting in the rooms can be cumbersome. Another aspect to consider is the absence of a proper hotel lobby, which is a standard feature in many luxurious five-star hotels. This lack of a dedicated lobby may not meet the expectations commonly associated with a five-star hotel experience, especially in Australia where the standards for luxury accommodations are typically lower.
Capella Sydney

I had high expectations of Capella Sydney after staying multiple times at Capella Bangkok and being treated as though I were the most important person in the hotel, just like all of the other guest who stay there are. The attention to service detail at Sydney location unfortunately failed very short to meet my expectations. The booking process on the website was glitchy and the pricing was inconsistent, sometimes showing pricing including tax sometimes not without indication and only upon receiving confirmation via email from reservations was the price confirmed, which did not match the screenshots of the reservation when I placed the booking so I had to go back and forth with reservations via phone and email to simply confirm the accurate pricing for my stay. After creating an account to log on to their booking platform although the option of modifying the booking was offered, the feature did not work on the site, so you had to cancel the booking and book a new booking if you simply wanted to extend by 1 day. This is before I even arrived at the hotel. When I did arrive, it is of course, no small feat that the restoration of this historic building was carried out with the utmost respect for the architecture, from the flooring material to the fenestration and even the internal grand stair way was brilliantly retro-fitted with current code requirements for the handrail in a historically appropriate yet contemporary solution. The hotel does not have many floors, so I encourage anyone to take the stairs to experience the beauty of the restoration work. The recognition of the strong identity of the urban location and sense of place in Sydney’s CBD offers us a promise, an encounter, as the space of the possible. I wish I could say the same about the interior design. There was a real disconnect between the intent of the architecture and that of the interior design. The decoration at best seemed vague, and so for the guest experience, how could one of have a point of view about the effect of the design? The space of the expectant “possible” relationship I was expecting from the simple activity of stepping into Farrer Place’s south entryway marked Department of Agriculture, as local stories interpreting colonial history with ancestral elements of the Eora people by Waayni artist Judy Watso unfolded, or the sense of expansive freedom through the bronze Palazzo doors on Loftus Street into the latent quiet luxury of the grand stair was lost when I was met with the contrasting designs and colours of the lift lobby vestibule axminster carpet and that of the corridor carpet to the guest rooms, able to be seen in the same frame. Although an argument can be made about eclecticism and the use of curating a collection of exceptional vintage and contemporary objects this was not the case here, it read as a mismatched bric-à-brac (to borrow a Victorian word from the building time period that's true meaning in French means ”any old way” or ”at random”). Holiday Inn Express Sydney Macquarie Park, an IHG Hotel

Firstly, this hotel is perfectly located for business travellers to Macquarie Park Business Centres. The hotel is 5 minutes away from offices, Macquarie Centre and train stations. Absolutely perfect for my work trip. There were some positives. Rooms are fine, completely what you would expect from a business hotel. Bed was comfortable, there was a TV that I never used, space to put luggage and hang up your clothes, a table and a chair etc. However, it goes down hill from there. I'll list the negatives 1 by 1: 1. One pillow had a very strong odour coming from it. Smelled like bad musty BO. I literally had to move the pillow into the cupboard as I couldn't stand the smell. However, this meant that I could smell this musty smell every time I came in and out of the room. 2. 1 of the provide bath towels had a big hole/tear in it. 3. Housekeeping made an error and did not provide shampoo but instead 2 conditioners. Easy enough, I called up reception and they said I have to come down to the reception to get it myself. Fine, went down and was given 1 bottle of shampoo. I went back upstairs to shower only to find that the shampoo given was pre-opened/pre-used. Terrible. After my shower, I went back down to speak to another receptionist who was apologetic and gave me 2 bottles of shampoo. 4. On my second day, I realised housekeeping had not come in, so I went down to speak to the reception again and was told that because of COVID, they only do housekeeping on after the 3rd day of your stay which made it null and void for me. 5. Fitness centre was adequate but they did not replenish the towels and did not clear used towels regularly. On my second day, I had left a used towel on the side as the bin was full. On my third day, the bin was still full and my previous towel still sitting there in the same position I had left it in. Forth day, no more clean towels. 6. If they were so concerned about COVID, they would have more regular cleaning of public areas like the gym and in the hall way where an empty glass and cup set for 3 whole days. The lack of cleaning in public areas to me is unacceptable in the hospitality industry now. All in all, I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone given my concerns above, especially the lack of cleanliness while we are dealing with an epidemic.
Yehs Hotel Sydney Qvb

Good rates to stay in the heart of the Sydney CBD. Special offer for paying in cash, otherwise the normal charge for using credit card. Located near Town Hall and Queen Victoria Building with easy access to shops, restaurants and transport. Compact Queen Room was small but had the main requirements if you are only staying in the room to sleep and out all day - comfy large bed, TV on the wall, small desk and chair, air con, free wi-fi, small room safe, small fridge and coffee/tea facilities, blackout curtains, regular and nice rain shower fittings. Soap and wall dispensers of shampoo and body wash provided, but other amenities like hair conditioner, iron and iron board or dental kit can be requested from Guest Services (sign with list in the elevator). Friendly staff. Reception closed in the early hours but just use access card. A few negatives. My room was located facing the nearby wall of the building next door (so no view). I requested a view (if possible) but was informed there were no views for my room. I don't think hotels realise how any outlook can make a big difference for some guests to enjoy their stay. If I book again I would check first if a room facing the street was available. Worse and disturbing for me though was the constant humming noise and sometimes slight vibration caused by the air ventilation shafts outside my window (one quite close and attached to the outside wall). It also took a couple of days and some confusion before I received a make up room/do not disturb door sign. Many hotels these days take this lightly and are very casual about such arrangements, but some guests are more comfortable having this sign. Very minor was the cold water barely ran in the bathroom basin which was a little convenient at times. There was a TV entertainment lounge nook in the corridor outside my room which was not used during my stay but I would find that disturbing if it had been. Overall a pleasant stay but check out the different types of rooms available.

The biggest advantage of this hotel is that the location is really great! L3 and L2 Pony are just outside the door, and L1 is at the same intersection. The Train is also convenient, so it is very convenient no matter where you go. If you walk, you can walk along Geo St all the way to Circular Quay, passing Town Hall, QVB, etc. We also tried to walk from the hotel to Darling Harbor, UTC and the University of Sydney, Hyde Park, museums, China Town, etc., and they were all very convenient! The disadvantage of the room is that when we opened the balcony door of Room 1510, there was a huge fume exhaust vent, so we couldn't sit on the balcony and drink a cup of coffee, and the sound was a bit noisy. Overall, not bad!

A great place to stay near Light Rail, Chinatown, Central, and shopping. Our room was excellent, and we found the reception staff always welcoming and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay. It is an excellent hotel for location, for guests who may have difficulty walking up and down sloping streets, as it is in a comparably level area.

Although my room was very nice and what I expected, unfortunately my overall experience was not very pleasant at this hotel. The staff at the front desk was not only rude, they actually suggested that I find another hotel during check-in because I pointed out a fee discrepancy (credit card surcharges) that was not disclosed during my booking reservation on Trip.com app. Meriton properties doesn’t disclose before, during, or after the reservation (Trip.com) that a credit card usage fee will be added, and that’s dishonest in my opinion. What’s disappointing is the attitude I get for pointing out Meriton’s mistake. First they pointed to the sign on the front desk, however I didn’t make this reservation while standing in their front lobby. Second, they said I should have booked on their website next time where it’s disclosed—perhaps then Trip.com should remove them from their approved hotel list. Finally, to learn of the policy while I check-in by pointing to a sign at the front desk, and then being told that if I don’t like the policy that “I can checkout and take my business elsewhere”, was the last straw and is the definition of horrible customer service and poor resolution management. They could have handled this issue differently and just said, “we will look into it and try to do a better job of informing our customers of our policy online. We apologize for this miscommunication.” They did email me afterwards with an apology but they still didn’t acknowledge their dishonesty in not disclosing their credit card usage fee on Trip.com app.

It’s nice comfortable bed and clean sheets. The place is quite old though (used to be a wool factory in past life) and bathroom has mold in the corners but otherwise decently clean. Needs a bit of upgrade. Rooms are very large and has all apar**ent amenities like dishwasher and dishes, oven, washing machine, iron and dryer. Decent stay for work not too far from city. Cafes available one block away but not a lot of options. Plenty of options on food delivery from city though through the major apps. I’d stay again.

This unit is over-priced. We stayed in a double unit, the two of us, which is better suited to either 2 couples or 2 adults and 2 kids which would justify the price. Upstairs is almost a carbon copy of downstairs in that both have almost full kitchens (no ovens), excellent reverse cycle air conditioning, TV's etc. Other than a very old, very off carton of milk left in the fridge the unit was exceptionally clean. Upon arriving, we were asked to pay which we had already done when booking. Beware no refunds once booked although this didn't apply in our case. Otherwise, the staff were friendly and helpful. Had to ask for toilet paper and purchase milk as only two small milk thimbles in fridge. Expected to wash up, dry and put away dishes and utensils before leaving and remove all garbage. We usually do this anyway but I thought it was quite an ask to be expected at those prices. It's post-Covid so I am wondering if lack of staff is the reason for this and perhaps this may change in the future. No buffet or restaurant on site. No room service. Don't expect any meals. No foxtel as advertised. At least we couldn't get it but they did have Netflix provided. We took our chromecast with us, thank goodness! The pool is much smaller than it looks in the pictures. Maybe 25 metres? Also, in the afternoon a lot of it is shaded. It's not heated so it's pretty chilly even in late November. The beach is gorgeous but the room we had didn't have views and the units are in the street behind the main shops so whilst very close to the beach (a mere two minutes) it isn't overlooking the beach. Also, very tight carpark if you have a larger car. I would recommend the family unit or double unit for 3 to 4 people. Otherwise stick to a single unit. I probably would not return unless with another couple because there are nicer places with more amenities that don't expect you to do the housework at the same or even better prices.

Great location based on my needs, travelling for work. Rooms were very spacious and clean and reception staff very friendly. There is car parking also available at the property which was handy.
