Eleftheria Hotel
4.1/547 Reviews
We decided to stay in the hotel having visited Agia Marina 6 years ago and passing it every time we walked down the hill from our (then) villa. We have not been disappointed! The room is clean and has all of the facilities you need. We have a balcony with great sea views (no sun, but can’t complain). We enjoyed the walk down to the beach/ main road every day and it took only 15 minutes (20 back, uphill). Some lovely local tavernas at the bottom too. Breakfast at the hotel has been lovely each day, with far more choice than I expected and with friendly staff. The pool is lovely and serene and (in May, at least), there are plenty of sun beds to relax on. HUGE SHOUT OUT to Akis and Maria who are both so warm and friendly! And Akis’ cocktails are fantastic (highly recommend the Chocolate Martini!).
Dias Hotel Apartments
4.5/514 Reviews
First visit to Chania area, chose Dias after looking for a small, self catering family orientated complex and based on the reviews it did not disappoint. Hidden from the main road. Had a 1st floor studio apartment, spotlessly clean, spacious, needs met, balcony overlooked the pool and bar/eating area (not noisy). Could see the sea, colourful flora/fauna too. Always a sun bed available. Dias team very friendly & helpful - Joanna welcomed us, cooked us breakfast, served drinks and shared lots of chats - made an amazing own recipe caramel coffee every day for my husband. Constantina had an infectious laugh, made us part of her family. Vlad - served us drinks, gave us lots of local information & great conversations. Mian looked after us in our room, clean towels/sheets, great humour & banter. Rest of family friendly & welcoming too. Everything on your doorstep, beach few minutes walk, multitude of tavernas to try, (both to the left & right) Aletri Taverna (over the road) full traditional Cretan flavours, Horiatiko, Divino Cafe/bar - amazing huge waffles, Family Friendly Food - great fast food/take away. Turn left out of apartments - 3 routes to walk up the mountain, Red route to the top, amazing views, lots of shade as you walk by all olive trees, steady paced 2-3 hours well worth it. Train ride - Blue Lagoon. Worth taking local bus (stop by garage) into Chania - pretty harbour, walk to lighthouse, shops every where you look, lots of history. Relaxed, chilled vibe - if you want party night life, not the place for you. Thank you to Dias team for making our holiday so relaxed and enjoyable. Will return.
Elia Agia Marina Hotel

Perfect stay in a lovely small-feel hotel right on the beach. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. Sam and George in particular made us feel like VIPs! The breakfast spread was one of the best I have ever had in a hotel, with a vast range of cooked and continental options. Everything was spotless. The restaurant offers a good range of drinks and lunch (on the beach or on the lawn) and dinner in the evening. If you fancy a change of scenery for dinner, I recommend walking along the beach at sunset to eat at one of the many excellent beach bars towards to harbour.
Iolida Beach by Smile Hotels

We traveled with a 1.5 year old child for eleven days with breakfast. The aparthotel can also be booked with half board or all inclusive. I got the feeling that the majority of the visitors were all inclusive guests. Room: we had a free upgrade to an apartment although we had booked a studio. It wasn't on the beach side but opposite. The balcony was very large which was a highlight. Otherwise the facility was simple but new and not worn. The kitchenette was generously equipped with a toaster and filter coffee machine in addition to the small oven. It was cleaned very well every day. Cheers to the cleaning ladies of the facility. Unfortunately, smaller, important household items such as a hand brush or a simple cloth for drying and wiping were missing in the apartment. Complex: there were 2 large pool areas. On the beach side and opposite. We personally hardly used the pool areas since we mostly went to the beaches. However, the pools always seemed clean. Unfortunately, there was the usual towel war in the morning, even if signs prohibited this. The beach section to the hotel was sufficient. Clean part of agia Marina. The play areas for children were unfortunately disappointing. Little variety and no shade in the blazing sun. Breakfast: we were satisfied with the breakfast. Enough choice with continental but also Greek stuff. Location: Agia Marina is a typical seaside resort. 9km from Chania. Good starting point for the beaches in the west. Otherwise, there is everything that is available at seaside resorts. Supermarkets, souvenir shops, taverns and tons of accommodation. Conclusion: on the whole we were satisfied. When traveling in southern Europe, we are usually looking for reasonable apartments. We found that here, but the whole thing is more geared towards the all-inclusive audience.
Minos Village
4.4/543 Reviews
Lovely small hotel, very friendly staff! All in all, the smallness can be seen in everything: not too many guests, very calm atmosphere, only a few waiters so they become familiar. Nice breakfast, although be prepared to eat the same food every day. Very delicious lunch in the pool bar but we had to wait for 45 minutes to get our food (on multiple days), so again the lack of staff shows. There were only 20 sunbeds around the pool so all the guests would have never been able to be there at the same time. Luckily it’s only a short walk to the beach. The apartment was decent, a bit dark though since there was only one window and it was in the bedroom, so there wasn’t much daylight in the kitchen/livingroom. The apartment was super clean every day! All in all, it was a nice experience and I would definitely come back to Minos Village any day!
Oscar Suites & Village
4.4/541 Reviews
We enjoyed our time at Oscar Suites. All of the staff are so friendly & helpful. Its location is good - on the main ***** on the border of Agia Marina and Platanias - so many shops and restaurants within an easy walk in either direction. The beach is just a couple of minutes away, but I would recommend walking 10 minutes to the right of the hotel and settle in front of one of the nice bars, where you can get use of beds/umbrellas if you eat there. The hotel is situated on a gentle slope and has two pools - one near the main road and one further up. We preferred the top pool. There’s a bar at both pools where you can get good food and drinks. There were always plenty of sunbeds, even when the hotel was full. Very few people reserved them, thankfully (who even does that?!). The food at Valentino’s is actually very good, especially for evening meals. I think we ate there twice in the two weeks we were there. Breakfast was fair, with a nice selection of hot and cold food, fruits, pastries, etc. It was all self-service and could get a little congestion at times. The rooms were fine, if a little basic. We had a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. On the lower floor was a sitting area with one sofa and a TV, a little table & chairs, a small kitchenette with fridge, kettle and coffee maker. There was a bit of a mismatch of cutlery & crockery. We didn’t cook there other than to make the odd sandwich, so it didn’t much matter. Next to this was a bathroom - loo, basin, bath, with shower over. The shower was actually very good. Upstairs - I really didn’t like those stairs! - were two bedrooms (one with a balcony and partial sea view), with a shower room in between. Towels were changed daily, sheets often. I wouldn’t say the cleaners did a fantastic job though. The beds were ok, but none of us felt they were the most comfortable we’ve slept in. The aircon was very good. There was a hairdryer in one of the bedside drawers. Lots of wardrobe space, but few shelves. The clientele was mixed, especially in our 2nd week, which was really nice - lots of different languages being spoken, but the hotel’s common language seemed to be English. We had a nice stay. It was a complete R&R, which was exactly what we needed. Thank you to Michael and his team.
