Hotel Riu Cabo Verde - All Inclusive Adults Only

We travelled from oct12 to 26 First impressions were great. Only 2 story's but spread out over a large area with block 1 being near the restaurant and block 5 being near the beach. The room was lovely if not a bit dated . It was clean and the mini bar and coffee were restocked when asked. Also towels and sheets were changed when asked .TIP If you like milk in your tea or coffee take a small bottle to the restaurant and fill it with milk to keep in the fridge. At first glance the main restaurant looked amazing with every kind of food you could wish for, however the breakfast was never hot and I was very concerned about salads and fish being left uncovered for many hours .The 3 special restaurants were lovely in the evening but the Steak restaurant was awful at lunch with flies all over the salad. After eating at the Italian restaurant in the second week my husband band was vert ill will diarrhea and stomach cramps . TIP keep an eye on the app and book restaurants as soon as possible.Another tip is to avoid breakfast at 7 30 and eat when the fresh food is cooked . The pool and the beach leave a lot to be desired. As other people have said you really struggle to get a bed near the pool. If you put your hotel towels on the beds the staff will move them . Unfortunately this is the only way to get a be .TIP if you must safe a bed use your own towels.. The beds on the beach are old and most are broken, there are no tables and the only shade is under the trees . The bar only serves beer or soft drinks and water . Be careful in the see as the waves are very strong. Trips out..We booked 2 trips with Mr Africa on the beach,he gave us a good price.if you don't want to use these guys just say no thanks .Also went into Santa Maria at night, bars ,restaurants are OK and we saw an amazing dance group on the street. We also went to The dead she'll beach, not a tourist place but interesting, taxi there 7 euros and walked back TIP if shopping try the supermarket as its cheaper than the small stalls.TIp take euros, the hotel reception will change large notes into smaller ones. We tipped 3 to 5 euros everywhere we could as the staff work so hard and earn very little money. You won't be able to change escudos when you come back . We gave ours to the staff . Finally to finish we travelled back on a Saturday night, the airport is full of flies . When arriving home I was very ill with diarrhea and stomach cramps . This was the same as a lot of people we spoke to whilst staying there. All I can say is watch what you eat. Although we had a nice time we wouldn't go back and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. This is a 4star not 5star hotel .only good thing is the amazing staff who work so very hard.

Can’t complain! Was a good beautiful hotel with plenty of food and drinks for all guests! Very easy to get there from the airport and everyone speaks English if you don’t speak the native language or similar. Most requests are done via their handy app which is easy to navigate and all inclusive is true to the name! You only pay for anything extra such as treatments in the Spa or items from the shop located on site otherwise everything else is included in the cost of your stay! I would have preferred more options for the 24hr “snack/food option” but this was only used out of hours so not many times for me.

The complex are blocks of apartments that are mainly for self catering. It was quite a distance from airport costing 20 euros by taxi. Check in was a lengthy process with little info on the resort surrounding area, apart from shuttle bus time table. There was no local public bus information regarding destination and timetable, which would have helped us a lot. We were very impressed with the spacious suite of 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, fully equipped kitchen and through lounge with large balcony to the rear, overlooking the pool and another large balcony to the front. Ironing board and iron, hairdryer, showers were effective with good temperature control, air conditioning units. Everything spotless, clean towels when needed, towels for pool supplied. Free shuttlebus service to town, capital city or the beach. There is a bank on site as well as a supermarket, coffee shop, restaurant and small bar. We were half board basis and were very disappointed with the choices of the buffet dinner each night plus the food was cold. We did report this after our first meal but nothing was done - still cold each night!. Breakfast had the same choices each morning but was ok. Staff were friendly and helpful throughout. Overall, our stay was enjoyable with impressive suite of rooms but was marred by the dining experience.
Sol Dunas

Spent a week here with my mum and my 4 year old son in the Easter holidays. We booked to stay in the Sol Dunas but think we were staying in the Melia Dunas part. Its impossible to tell where one hotel ends and the other begins, it just feels like one big resort Top tip: soon as you arrive find out how to book your evening a la carte restaurants (when we were here you had to go to Odessy piano bar (inside) from 10.30am). They get booked up quickly. We only dinned in Atlantis and Sahel and both were great Childrens entertainment was excellent. Lollo and Bernie (plus Astrid and the other kids club staff) really made our holiday. My son loved them. The 5.30pm mini disco was a huge hit. I understand this (Lollo and Bernie program of events) has now all finished for the season although the hotel also had kids club facilities. Food and drink. ”Spices” is the buffet restaurant and ”Mosiac” (they are in the same building) is the part open for snacks outside of main meal times . We enjoyed the food. Ate salads all week and some of the meat. Did feel a bit samey at times but we could always find something to eat. You can also have lunch at Aqua which is pizza and pasta and is table service. So nice to mix it up and go there. The a la carte restaurants for evening meals also help provide variety. Coffee is best ordered at the bars, it doesnt taste nice out of the machine in Spices. We were also happy with the selection of drinks served in the various pool/beach bars Kids splash pool was another big hit and we spent almost all of our time here. There are some building works happening next to it but they do not disturb you Our room was large and clean. The houskeeping staff did a great job. Only issues (we did not raise this with the hotel at the time so they ve had no opportunity to address this and it didnt really bother us that much) the safe was temperamental it would lock but then sometimes wouldnt open! The plug in our bathroom sink was also a bit problematic, it would get stuck. If u were not careful the shower also flooded the bathroom. Had to be very careful to angle it away from the shower screen (that had a gap at the bottom). Overall we loved our holiday here and we are already discussing booking for next year (as long as Lollo and Bernie are there!!!) Biggest bit of feedback to the hotel would be: you need to make it easier to find out some of the information on restaurants, meal times, events, etc. The QR codes didnt really give enough. A sheet in the room or information pack would be helpful Thanks for a great holiday!

Have stayed before and gave in 4* Was bit disappointed this time Paid extra for pool view as last time was kept awake by Pirate disco. Were initially shown to top floor room directly opposite disco. We asked to be moved and were given a room by the pool. This smelt of damp and there was a large patch of mould on the wall. The toilet leaked water from the back. There was not hot water for the full week. The sunbeds were all reserved by 8am-luckily few guests knew about the upstairs terrace which was great. Breakfast was very good but chaotic constantly running out of everything. The evening meal was ok but service was terribly slow-the poor water was rushed off his feet doing everything. We ate out the other nights and there are loads of good restaurants in 2 mins walk Its basically a decent value hotel with great staff and a fab location 3mins from pier and beach--would I go again ?? --probably. If you want 5* you can probably get in an AI out of town --but you will miss so much.

One of the best hotels we’ve stayed in. True family hotel with roots in the community stretching back generations. The restaurant was fantastic (breakfast did get busy) but the staff were brilliant. The beach bar was so chilled out. The live music was a real treat and each night was live and felt very special. But the setting….omg. I challenge anyone to sit in the bar / restaurant and look around you and not be in love with your surroundings….. There are some really Kak reviews on here about this place. If you like your big corporates with rows of deck chairs, expensive restaurants and looking down your nose then don’t bother. On the other hand, if your a lover of trying quality local food, kicking back with a view to die for and feeling the vibe of ‘no stress’ around the pools then try it….
